Unity

Indeed. And I increasingly believe that nobody gets to have that unity except by one individual honest interaction at a time (perhaps there is a way to scale this up through healthy group interactions…..for example there are studies showing that people who give more charity to their in group are also more charitable to those outside their group…..but the in group has to be there first.)

The divisiveness in our nation has made this charitable aspect difficult.

In a nation formed with immigrants from "everywhere", with original founders of different world views (some traditional Christians, some rationalistic Deists), I feel it is unrealistic in an even more complex world to try to force "unity of worldview" in order to have other types of cooperation. Yet I think that's the moment we are in. It keeps use from getting cooperation on other purely societal things.
